Objective
St Andrew the Apostle School is a major education project in Barnet delivered by Bowmer and Kirkland for the Department for Education. The scheme provides a permanent home for the UKs first state funded Greek Orthodox secondary school, replacing temporary accommodation and creating a modern, purpose built learning environment for more than 1,100 students.
For Active Flooring, this project represents another important step in strengthening our presence across London and the South East.
Approach
From the outset, we worked closely with Bowmer and Kirkland to ensure our package aligned with the projects strong sustainability and social value goals. The development has been designed using a fabric first approach and is targeting Net Zero Carbon in operation, with a significant proportion of the workforce and supply chain drawn from the local area.
Scope
• Installing Gerflor vinyl finishes throughout teaching spaces, corridors and circulation areas to provide durable, easy to maintain surfaces suited to busy school environments
• Delivering Burmatex carpet and matting systems in quieter learning zones, administrative areas and entrance points, chosen for acoustic comfort and a welcoming visual appeal
• Sequencing installations carefully to support ongoing works and maintain programme flow
• Coordinating closely with site and M and E teams to minimise interfaces and ensure consistent quality across the building
This integrated approach allowed us to deliver a flooring solution that met both the practical demands of the school and the wider project ambitions.
Results
The completed flooring package provides a modern, robust and cohesive finish that complements the design of the new school while supporting its sustainability and performance objectives.
