At Sora, the premium Sky Bar and rooftop restaurant, at Malmaison Deansgate Hotel, we installed a rustic grade engineered timber floor, laid at a distinctive 45-degree angle and included a border, to the perimeter and seamless transitions to interfaces.

Installing Engineered Timber

To ensure a flawless finish and long-lasting performance, the engineered timber was installed using a fully bonded adhesive system. This method was chosen for its ability to provide a stable, secure bond that enhances the durability and lifespan of the flooring. The fully bonded adhesive system also reduces movement and noise, ensuring a quiet and comfortable experience for guests.

Our team meticulously applied the adhesive, taking care to prepare the subfloor thoroughly to achieve a perfectly smooth and level surface. This attention to detail was essential, especially given the intricate 45-degree pattern and the requirement for a flush, recessed nosing. The result was a seamless installation that not only met but exceeded the client’s expectations for both aesthetics and performance.

Custom Design

Additional care and precision were required in the planning and setting out of the engineered wood, as the client wanted this rustic, oak flooring to be laid on a 45 degree angle, with a border to the perimeter.

Interfaces

There were several interfaces that had to be carefully considered, including sections of ceramic tiles, an inset rug, doorways, walls and also included a number of curves.

Ensuring sophistication was maintained though out all of the details, we installed a solid brass T-section trim at the junction between the Engineered wood and the ceramic tiles, which is as aesthetically pleasing as it is functional. This provided a seamless and protective connection between the products, in a high traffic bar area.

For the luxurious interiors of Malmaison Deansgate Hotel, our expertise was called upon to install a bespoke carpet that would enhance the unique aesthetic of the space. This project required careful planning and precise execution to ensure the desired look was achieved, reflecting both the hotel’s refined style and the design team’s vision.

The bespoke carpet design demanded meticulous planning to align fading patterns perfectly and achieve a harmonious flow throughout the space. Our team utilised their extensive knowledge and experience to carefully measure and map out each section, ensuring the carpet seamlessly integrated with the corridor’s layout.

Custom Fitting and Installation

Given the custom nature of the carpet, every piece needed to be expertly cut and fitted on-site. We took great care to match the shaded pattern at all seams and transitions, maintaining the design’s integrity. This attention to detail was crucial to creating a cohesive and visually flowing floor covering.

The parquet flooring features a rustic aesthetic, enriched with natural knots and diverse grain patterns that add depth and character to the hotel’s interiors. The engineered oak blocks, designed with a substantial wear layer, provide a durable and long-lasting solution, capable of withstanding the daily demands of a bustling ground floor.

Herringbone Pattern and Precision Installation

The design was a classic herringbone pattern to enhance the sophisticated ambiance of the ground floor. The parquet blocks, crafted with tongue-and-groove edges and bevelled sides, were meticulously laid to ensure a seamless fit and a stable finish. The UV oil finish applied to the brushed oak further enhanced its natural tones and provides extra protection against wear.

Overcoming Logistical Challenges

A significant challenge during this project was managing logistics around other trades working simultaneously on-site. It was a large area and thoroughfare to many parts of the site. To accommodate the overlapping schedules and ensure a smooth workflow, we re-sequenced the installation carefully, without compromising the precise design. Our team’s flexibility and proactive communication with the client and other contractors were crucial in navigating these challenges, ensuring the project stayed on track.
