Chilmington Green School, London

Flooring Package £300,000

A major flooring installation for a cutting-edge educational space in London.

Objective

Chilmington Green School is a brand new secondary school for 1,140 pupils, commissioned by the Department for Education and delivered by Bowmer + Kirkland. With an ambitious sustainability strategy, the building is designed to operate at net zero carbon and is targeting a BREEAM Excellent rating. Facilities include 32 classrooms, 9 science labs, a sixth form centre, creative arts areas, a library, and extensive indoor sports provision, all tailored to support flexible, future ready learning.

Approach

Our flooring installation spanned 7,500 square metres across a wide variety of spaces, including teaching, circulation, science and sports areas. Working to the project specification, we installed a combination of resilient vinyl and carpet tiles from manufacturers Gerflor and Burmatex, chosen for their performance in education settings. As part of our package, we also undertook the subfloor preparation to ensure the correct build-up and finish throughout.

Coordinating closely with Bowmer + Kirkland, our works were phased to meet key milestones and maintain quality from start to finish. The result is a hard wearing and carefully executed floor finish across the full site.

Impact

Chilmington Green is the first DfE secondary school in England to incorporate a passive thermal labyrinth, supporting natural ventilation and cooling. Combined with its net zero carbon strategy, this makes the project a flagship for sustainable education design. We’re proud to have contributed to the delivery of high quality spaces that will serve both pupils and the wider community for years to come.
