Project Overview: Tailored Underfloor Heating Installation

For this Cheshire renovation, our team was tasked with the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of a water-based underfloor heating system. The client’s main priorities were efficient heat retention, high output, and a low-profile installation to preserve floor-to-ceiling height. As part of the home’s upgrades, the client introduced an air source heat pump as opposed to a traditional combi boiler. Our UFH system was specially configured to work seamlessly with this modern setup, optimising energy efficiency throughout the home.

Ground Floor: Low-Profile Underfloor Heating for Space Efficiency

On the ground floor, maintaining the original floor height was essential. We selected a 20mm foil-routed insulation board as the base for the underfloor heating pipework, providing even heat distribution while preserving valuable floor space. This low-profile solution is ideal for existing homes where ceiling height is at a premium, allowing for a swift installation with minimal disruption.

After testing the system overnight, we applied a self-levelling fibre-reinforced screed at 20mm thickness to correct any unevenness in the floor, creating a smooth, level base for the final floor finish.

Upper Floor: Efficient Heating for Bathrooms and Ensuites

For the upper floor bathrooms and ensuites, we installed 20mm XPS backer board, routed at 150mm centres and fixed to joists. This setup provides efficient heating without increasing floor build-up height. A thin layer of latex was then applied, preparing the floors for the client’s chosen finish.

Stunning New Floor Finishes

With the underfloor heating system installed, we went on to add beautiful new floor finishes throughout the property. Havwoods wood flooring was installed in a stunning herringbone pattern, bringing a touch of classic elegance to the space. In addition, high-quality carpets and ceramic tiles were laid, perfectly complementing the home’s modernised aesthetic and providing both warmth and sophistication.
